Auburn University Theatre 1989-92
A fun job, with some fun people. Almost all of the designs you see here were by A. Lynn Lockrow (Sets and Lights) and Laura Jo Thudium (Costumes). Alan was the TD, and did a couple of designs, noted herein...
Back

Isis and Osiris, a Dance Drama based on the Egyptian myth, was my "Swan Song" as far as I was concerned. I FINALLY got the shop to do a set in metal, something I'd been trying to do for years, plus I got to design the lights. Original music scored for the AU Percussion Ensemble was really cool.

Laundry and Bourbon (above) and Lone Star (below) ran together with a set that flipped around, one for the other, just on the raised pit area of the theatre. Really nice, really intimate. Except for the "smellovision" effect of the real trash rotting behind the bar in Lone Star.

The Fox. My first light design there, plus a way to show them some really cool uses for styrofoam, like fireplaces and columns and beams. Plus you gotta love the fox there...

Ah, Wilderness! by Eugene O'Neill. Featuring the "Wonkavator" gazebo that rotated and tracked up and down stage, all by magic.

Brighton Beach Memoirs. Always a challenge because of basically needing to build a functional two-story house minus the one wall. Can you say "cantilever"? (I knew you could...)

Jesus Christ Superstar. Fun being TD, Sound Designer (trying to tie in an auxiliary board in the house) plus, due to a lack of male voices I became Apostle #12 and the Guard with the whip.

God's Trombones, by Langston Hughes (If I'm wrong, someone slap me). A Dance Drama interpretation with Jazz and Gospel music.

And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little... My first show there and our entry into ACTF that year. Cool little set with lots of large styrofoam moulding.
